During our recent visit to Rethymnon, Crete, we had the delightful opportunity to dine at Nostos, an acclaimed restaurant known for its exceptional Greek cuisine and inviting hospitality. Situated along the picturesque seaside promenade, Nostos offers a dining experience that is distinguished by its high-quality dishes, pleasant ambiance, and attentive service.

Nostos is celebrated for its traditional Greek fare, made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. We began our meal with a variety of appetizers, such as a vibrant Greek salad, refreshing sea bass ceviche, and savory saganaki (fried cheese). Each dish was a testament to the authenticity and richness of Cretan cuisine, making for an excellent start to our meal.

For our main courses, we chose the grilled sea bream, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the chicken souvlaki, which was both tender and flavorful. The portions were generous, and the quality of the ingredients was evident. The sea bream stood out as particularly succulent, showcasing the chef’s skill and dedication to using fresh ingredients. The daily specials also provided a glimpse into the chef’s creativity and commitment to excellence.

The atmosphere at Nostos is modern yet cozy, with a welcoming environment that makes you feel at ease. The outdoor seating area, offering stunning views of the sea, enhances the dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy their meal while taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings. It’s an ideal spot for a leisurely evening meal, complete with the calming sound of the waves and a picturesque sunset.

One of the standout aspects of Nostos is the outstanding service. The staff, led by the personable owner Eddie, are warm and attentive, ensuring that each guest feels special and well-cared for. They provide personalized recommendations and share intriguing stories about the dishes and their preparation, adding a unique touch to the dining experience.

We concluded our evening with a delightful dessert of homemade ice cream and a complimentary glass of raki, a traditional Cretan spirit. This sweet ending to our meal left us with wonderful memories of our time at Nostos.
